Experimental Engineer, Full time

On-site at Cranfield University, UK

Summary

At Bluemethane, our mission is to prevent a billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from water. We’re looking for a brilliant experimental engineer to play a critical and exciting part in these engineering efforts.

Our technology will measure, capture, and use methane from water. This will permanently remove methane, reduce global warming, and support the energy transition by unlocking a new source of energy.

Key responsibilities

As the experimental engineer, you’ll work closely with the technical team to further develop our technologies in response to market and customer needs.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Design, procure, build, and execute laboratory experiments to evaluate fluid flow, mass transfer, and separation efficiency for methane extraction from water.
  • Develop experimental protocols and test plans aligned to development milestones.
  • Instrument test apparatus and configure data acquisition systems to collect performance data.
  • Analyse results through techniques like modelling, graphical analysis, statistics, uncertainty analysis.
  • Identify, learn from, and troubleshoot experimental challenges and inconsistencies in results.
  • Summarise experimental findings in reports, recommendations, presentations.
  • Work closely with Bluemethane engineers to modify and improve the separation system.
  • Stay abreast of latest research, methods, and technologies relevant to methaneseparation.

Qualifications and experience

  • PhD, MSc or MEng in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, mass transfer, and separation processes.
  • Proficiency in designing and executing experiments, including data acquisition and analysis.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and instrumentation related to fluid dynamics and mass transfer studies.
  • Knowledge of software tools for data analysis and modelling (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices in laboratory settings.

Essential Attributes

  • You’re a self-starter with entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Open minded and resourceful engineer with a hands-on attitude.
  • You have outstanding writing and oral communication capabilities.
  • You’re a systems thinker.
  • You have a deep understanding of engineering fundamentals.
  • You are based in the UK (You’ll be working at our lab in Cranfield).
  • Enjoy working remotely and autonomously with a multicultural team from aroundthe world.

It’s a plus if:

  • Proven experience in conducting experimental work related to methane separation or similar processes.
  • You like to (actually) build things.
  • Enjoy electronics, sensors, and programming.
  • Are familiar with CFD and other numerical methods or modelling techniques.

What we offer

  • Full time (contract) with option to gradually move to full time employee including share options scheme.
  • Personal and professional development budget.
  • Attractive vacations and absence policy.
  • Additional benefits.
Bluemethane is an equal opportunity employer.
