To expand our capacity in the team of investment managers with sector expertise we are seeking an entrepreneurial person to join our team in Toronto with an outstanding knowledge in Industrial IT and B2B Software solutions. This represents a unique opportunity to become a part of a global team, expand our activities and create a tangible and sustainable impact.
What you will do
- Analyzing and evaluating trends, products and solutions in the broad field of industrial IT and B2B software for various industrial applications. More specifically, you will focus on cross-industry software solutions that enhance productivity, sustainability, and operational efficiency, including but not limited to areas such as supply chain management, workforce optimization, R&D, product development, and ESG/emissions reporting.
- Using your broad technical knowledge and cross-functional networks to anticipate and address customer needs, including identifying technical challenges and specific growth opportunities to prepare investment strategy recommendations for these industry segments.
- Mapping market sub-sectors to find the most interesting start-up companies in your sector.
- Sourcing and analyzing startups from a technology, intellectual property, product, business model and operational perspective and preparing investment recommendations as part of a deal team.
- As part of a deal team, you coordinate and perform due diligence on the technology, product, market, business strategy, competitive position and management.
- Providing support to portfolio companies and closely monitoring their progress on key performance indicators.
- Being instrumental in building out Emerald’s network of experts in the related industry and technology fields.
- Traveling, as required, to participate in due diligence, attend industry and venture conferences and liaise with portfolio companies and our strategic investors.
- Finally, engaging and maintaining strong relationships with our key strategic investors with a particular focus on Industrial Software and IT topics. Supporting them in their open innovation and investment activities through frequent interaction.
What you will need
- Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering or a similar academic qualification in these fields.
- MBA or similar post-graduate business qualification is not required but a plus.
- Hands-on experience with cutting-edge software technologies being developed, tested, and commercialized in industrial sectors. Deep understanding of foundational software technologies, including AI and Machine Learning, and their impact on transforming industrial sectors.
- Several years of experience working in the relevant industry, either for a start-up or a corporate, with insight into the most pressing challenges in building and scaling software products and solutions.
- Preferably, experience in collaborations between start-up companies and large established corporations.
- It is further a strong plus if the candidate has some venture investing experience.
- Curious personality with outstanding analytical skills with the ability to efficiently and effectively analyze on a technical, commercial and strategic level.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to command the respect of the counter parties and team members with the ability to work across multiple disciplines as part of a team.
- Energetic self-starter with stamina, working effectively as part of a small team and the ability to work in an environment with rapidly changing deliverables.
- Excellent written communication skills in English and preferably one or two other foreign languages.
