The SAMS platform is an integrated solution for utility compliance and operations, enabling customers to collect, integrate, manage, and report regulatory and operational data in one system. Role OverviewWe are seeking a technically strong, customer-facing Sales Engineer to lead the technical components of the pre-sales process. This role partners with Sales to understand prospect requirements, deliver customer-specific demonstrations, and translate business and technical needs into accurate scopes, levels of effort, assumptions, and pricing inputs. The Sales Engineer also owns the quality and readiness of the SAMS demo environment, including configurations, workflows, and sample data. Key Responsibilities- Partner with sales representatives to plan technical strategy for qualified opportunities and identify workflows, stakeholders, data sources, integrations, and risks.- Prepare and deliver compelling, customer-specific demonstrations of core SAMS workflows for technical and non-technical audiences.- Tailor demo talk tracks, configurations, workflows, and sample data to prospect requirements.- Lead technical discovery and convert requirements into scopes, assumptions, dependencies, integration and data-migration needs, LOE estimates, and pricing inputs.- Distinguish standard product configuration from custom development and communicate capabilities, limitations, alternatives, and risks.- Own readiness, accuracy, stability, and maintenance of SAMS demo environments, configurations, workflows, and sample datasets.- Develop reusable demo scenarios and coordinate all technical preparation, testing and issue resolution before meetings.- Create clear requirements, acceptance criteria, and priorities for demo-related work; test completed work and drive defects to resolution.- Collaborate with Sales, Implementation, Product, Development, and Support to answer technical questions, validate solutions, relay feedback, and ensure clean post-sale handoff.- Create and maintain scoping templates, demo scripts, technical documentation, sample datasets, and other reusable pre-sales assets.- Stay current on SAMS capabilities, customer use cases, competitor offerings, and relevant utility/environmental compliance technology. Required Qualifications- 3+ years in technical pre-sales, solutions engineering, software implementation, technical consulting, or related customer-facing software role; SaaS preferred.- Hands-on understanding of software configuration, relational data, SQL, APIs, integrations, file-based data exchanges, and cloud applications.- Excellent presentation and communication skills.- Strong attention to detail, organization, and process discipline; ability to manage multiple opportunities and deadlines.- Two-year technical certification, associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience. Desired Skills & Experience- Experience writing SQL queries in Microsoft SQL Server; working directly with relational datasets.- Experience selling to or working with public utilities, government agencies, environmental compliance organizations, or other regulated entities.- Experience owning/maintaining product demo environments, sandboxes, reusable configurations, or sample datasets.- Experience scoping data migrations, APIs, system integrations, or complex SaaS implementations.- Basic knowledge of HTML and JavaScript.- Familiarity with water/wastewater operations and systems such as SCADA, GIS, LIMS, CMMS, or regulatory reporting platforms.- Familiarity with CRM and work-management tools such as Zoho CRM, Salesforce, HubSpot.- Experience working with distributed development teams.- Ability to travel and work flexible hours when required.
