KaleidEO, a subsidiary of SatSure, is an upstream leader in Earth Observation, building a full-stack company from India. As an analytics-first payload innovator, we focus on building next-gen payloads tailored for industry-specific applications.
Our high-resolution, optical, multispectral payloads, equipped with edge computing and wide coverage capabilities, maximize the value generated from every pixel of satellite imagery.
Rooted in SatSure’s legacy of delivering last-mile applications across sectors like Utilities, Aviation, Agriculture, BFSI and Climate Action, KaleidEO offers modular solutions for the entire EO value chain spanning payload development, launch, mission operations, and data analytics
At KaleidEO, we are committed to shaping the future of Earth Observation and putting Indian space tech on a global map, and we invite you to be part of this exciting journey.
Work with the brightest minds, including ex-ISRO scientists and global space industry experts, at one of the select few companies in the country pioneering cutting edge EO payloads.
Role:
KaleidEO is seeking a Opto-Mechanical Engineer (2 - 5 years experience) to support the design, analysis, and integration of precision mechanical systems for electro-optical payloads in Low Earth Orbit. You will work with the Lead Opto-Mechanical Engineer and collaborate closely with optical, systems, AIT, and electronics teams. This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong CAD and FEA skills, a solid understanding of opto-mechanical design principles, and the drive to own specific work packages from concept through detailed design and into integration.
Responsibilities:
Opto-Mechanical Design
  • Design and develop opto-mechanical subsystems: mirror mounts, lens barrels, metering structures, focal plane assemblies, and structural brackets.
  • Generate detailed CAD models and toleranced manufacturing drawings in Siemens NX.
  • Review possible layouts and orientations to optimize design for mass, stiffness, and optical performance.
  • Maintain and update Bills of Materials (BoMs) and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
Analysis
  • Perform FEA under guidance: static stress, modal frequency, random vibration, and thermal deformation using Siemens NX Nastran or equivalent.
  • Support STOP analysis by providing structural deflection results to the thermal and optics teams.
  • Maintain and update the mechanical alignment budget for the payload.
Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) & AIT
  • Design and develop MGSE for payloads: handling jigs, transport containers, alignment fixtures.
  • Work with AIT and systems engineers to capture alignment and handling requirements.
  • Support payload integration activities: assembly procedures, alignment checks, handling protocols.
  • Shadow and support TVAC and vibration test preparations; assist in mechanical fixture design for test setups.
Documentation & Collaboration
  • Document all design work in Confluence: CAD notes, FEA results, MGSE requirements, ICD cross-links.
  • Participate actively in mechanical, AIT, and systems meetings.

Qualifications and Skills

Required
  • B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical, Aerospace, or closely related engineering discipline.
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in mechanical or opto-mechanical design for precision instruments or space systems.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD (Siemens NX or SolidWorks); ability to generate toleranced manufacturing CAD models/drawings independently.
  • Proficient in design from first principles using freebody diagrams and analytical methods.
  • Hands-on experience with FEA: static, modal analysis. Comfortable with meshing, boundary conditions, and interpreting results.
  • Understanding of design for space environments: launch loads, vacuum, thermal cycling.
  • Good communication and documentation skills; experience working in a team environment.
Strongly Preferred
  • Experience with opto-mechanical systems: mirror/lens mounts, kinematic mounts, flexure mechanisms.
  • Prior experience in defense aerospace, or satellite/payload development.
  • Basic understanding of STOP analysis and how structural deformation affects optical performance.
Good to Have
  • Experience with MGSE design and fabrication for precision optical systems.
  • Basic knowledge of optical design and optical test methods.
  • Experience with composite materials, adhesive bonding, or precision mechanisms.
Benefits
  • Medical Health Cover for you and your family including unlimited online doctor consultations.
  • We believe family comes first. That’s why we offer Maternity, Paternity, Marriage and Bereavement Leave, so you can be there when it matters most.
  • Opportunities to present at international conferences and events.
  • Access to mental health experts for you and your family.
  • Dedicated allowances for learning and skill development.
