What You Will Contribute:

The Badger Meter Internship Program provides hands-on, real-world experience to students through projects that make a difference! In addition to your projects, you will be given the opportunity to participate in our robust Intern program focused on Badger Meter Culture, professional development, community outreach and a final capstone project.

The Electrical Controls Intern supports the Systems Engineering team in the design, documentation, and installation of industrial electrical control systems. This internship offers hands-on experience in the municipal water and wastewater industry, focusing on control panel wiring, field equipment integration, and technical documentation. The intern will assist in surveying job sites, updating electrical drawings, and supporting field technicians during panel installation and startup.

This will be a summer internship onsite at our Melbourne Florida facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in surveying existing motor control cabinets and field instrumentation.

  • Support the creation and revision of CAD-based electrical drawings.

  • Help with wiring and termination of field devices to control panels.

  • Participate in startup testing and documentation of control systems.

  • Shadow technicians during troubleshooting of digital and analog control circuits.

  • Maintain organized records of project documentation and updates.

  • Learn and apply industry standards (NEC, NFPA) under supervision.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain practical experience in industrial electrical systems and control panel integration.

  • Develop familiarity with dry-contact loops, 4–20mA analog signals, and PLC interfacing.

  • Understand the workflow of electrical design, installation, and commissioning.

  • Improve technical drawing and documentation skills using CAD tools.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an technical program pursuing an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Industrial Technology, or related field.

  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and components.

  • Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD or similar) is a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.

  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and follow safety protocols.

  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Standing, walking, lifting (up to 40 lbs), and working in outdoor conditions.

  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required on job sites.
