What You Will Contribute:

The Trade Compliance Specialist supports Badger Meter’s global trade compliance program and plays a key role in ensuring the company meets all import, export, and regulatory obligations. This role partners closely with internal teams, customs brokers, and freight forwarders to maintain compliance, reduce risk, and uphold Badger Meter’s commitment to ethical and efficient global operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Support

  • Respond to internal and external inquiries through the shared inbox to ensure timely order processing and issue resolution.
  • Review and release export holds, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of import filings submitted by customs brokers.
  • Conduct restricted party screening for customers, vendors, and other third parties.

Regulatory Compliance & Data Management

  • Maintain accurate trade classifications, including USML, ECCN, HTS, and country-of-origin data.
  • Manage Section 232 and other trade remedy–related import data elements.
  • Support U.S. and Canadian import audits, U.S. export filing audits, and related risk management activities.
  • Assist in managing the U.S. C-TPAT program and other supply chain security initiatives.

Process Improvement & Documentation

  • Create, update, and maintain trade compliance procedures and work instructions.
  • Support the development and delivery of trade compliance training across the organization.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to strengthen compliance processes and reduce operational risk.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with all Badger Meter sites, customs brokers, and freight forwarders to ensure adherence to government regulations and corporate policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; up to 10% travel required.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in trade compliance or a related field.
  • Associate’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Training in Export Administration Regulations required.
  • ITAR training preferred.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of ECCN, HTS classification, tariffs, duties, and free trade agreements.
  • Experience collaborating with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and U.S. government portals such as ACE and SNAP-R.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
